Notes & Homework

 Skill: Ground Strokes

  • Contact Point: Approx 12-15” in front of front foot.
  • Weight Transfer: Load and Rotate. Extending forward through the ball.
  • Hands: Reach out with non paddle hand on forehands. Separate hands when hitting a 1 handed backhand.
  • Swing: Short Backswing- paddle butt to back hip. Swing plane to the side to initiate kinetic chain- not pendulum swing.

Drill: Self Feed Forehands

  • Place a pile of cones deep in each service box.
  • Set up on the baseline opposite the target cones i a ball basket.
  • Take 2 balls and hit a self fed forehand to each cone pile - 1 cross court and 1 down the line.
  • Alternate which side you hit on odd/even with each 2 hit rotation.
  • Tactical Takeaway
    • Increased groundstroke accuracy and consistency.

Drill: Partner to Partner Groundstrokes

  • Players stand straight on starting at transition zone and then moving to baseline when more control is gained.
  • Rally back and forth using forehands and backhands.
  • Count how many you can hit in a row with your partner without making a mistake.
  • Back up after a few rallies so you progressively have to hit harder.

Drill: Look & See

  • Players set up at Baseline cross court or straight on.
  • Engage in cooperative doubles rally with players calling LOOK every time their opponent contacts the ball and SEE every time they contact the ball.
