Skill: Open Stance Dinking

  • Footwork: Open stance. NO CROSS OVER STEPS
  • ContactPoint: Out in front. If gets behind when pulled wide go down line rather thancross court.
  • Weight Transfer: Flow into shot - lateral like a speed skater.
  • Body Positioning: Square up to the ball

Skill: Cross Court Dinking Footwork

  • Footwork: Open stance. NO CROSSOVER STEPS
  • Contact Point: Out in front. If behind you when pulled wide hit down line.
  • Weight Transfer: Flow into shot and return facing where you placed the ball.
  • Body Positioning: When actively dinking stand 60% off center line
  • Hands: Continental grip, lay back wrist. Grip 3-4 out of 10.

Drill: Open Stance Toss at NVZ

  • Part #1: Players set up at NVZ cross court or straight on.
    • Toss ball back and forth alternating forehand and backhand target focusing on 1 of the technical aspects of dinking.
  • Part #2: Same set up but players randomize tosses and focus on ball recognition of where their partner is tossing.

Drill: Cross Court Dink Grinder

  • Start a cooperative dink rally to see how long it can keep going.
     
  • Play 1 min round to see how many they can do without messing up.
  • Repeat to try to beat score.
