300 Series: Skills & Drills Lab
Slap Volleys & Low Resets
Takeaways & Training Tasks
Keep the momentum rolling with these quick steps:
- Refresh your memory with the 2 skills, 2 drills, and training video.
- Knock out the drills 2–3x before we meet again.
- Each time you play, pick one skill and make it your mission to use it often and on purpose.
High Slap Volley
- Contact Point: CONTACT POINT is key! Too early (swing too soon) = in the
net. Too late (big backswing) = sailing long. Prep. Pause. Swing. - Weight Transfer: Load and rotate into this shot to provide power.
- Hands: Forehands-reach up with non paddle hand as if you are going to
catch the ball. - Swing: Short to no Backswing. Accelerate through the ball.
Toss & Attack
- Place cone piles down the line mid court.
- Feeders stand close to basket at T of NVZ to allow room to hit down the
line. - Hitters set up at NVZ.
- Feeder tosses the ball to partner who attacks with focus on timing with
contact point. - Balls ideally fed shoulder height.
- 1 min forehand feed. 1 min backhand feed.
Low Reset
- Grip: Soft hand Continental
- Stance: Open Stance
- Paddle Prep: Low paddle prep with no backswing and little to no push through. Let the paddle do the work.
- Contact Point: Low and out in front of your body with paddle tip down
- Follow Through: No follow through. Let the paddle do the work.
Low Reset Practice
- Players set up straight on skinny at the NVZ
- Part 1: Hitting player will use lacrosse net to simply catch the feeds from the
feeder. Emphasis is contact point in proper position and no swing. - Part 2: Hitting player will use paddle for resets 1 Player will feed cooperative slap or swing volleys looking to get a
downward trajectory. Reset player will practice low prep and good contact point to allow ball to reset back into the opposing NVZ.
