Notes & Homework

Skill: Dinking Open Stance

  • Footwork: Open stance. NO CROSS OVER STEPS-
  • Contact Point: Out in front. If gets behind when pulled wide go down line rather than cross court.
  • Weight Transfer: Flow into shot - lateral like a speed skater.
  • Body Positioning: Square up to the ball

Drill:Ā Toss & Lunge

  • Players set up skinny atĀ NVZ. Perform this both cross court and straight on to work on open stanceĀ footwork.
  • 1 player underhand tosses a ball wide to opponents side. Alternating forehand and backhand.
  • Opponent must pivot and lunge to reach the ball, not cross over.
  • Feeding player will catch the ball each time and allow partner to reset.
  • Variation #2 = feeder can hit the ball side to side to opponent as they improve.

Drill: Dinking Inside Outside

  • Players cross court at NVZ.
  • 1 player dinks to inside foot then to outside foot alternating each shot.
  • Opposing player works on foot work and unit turn and hits back to their partner wherever they want.
