Notes & Homework

Skill: Lift Dink

  • A shallow dink used in defensive situations to keep you safe.
  • Contact Point: Out in front.
  • Weight Transfer: Flow into your shot. Don’t pop up.
  • Body Positioning: Square up to the ball.
  • Hands: Soft Continental grip, lay back your wrist.
  • Swing: Slight lifting motion in the swing. Careful not to lift too much.

Skill: Push Dink

  • An offensive dink. Use it to push opponents around to create open court, imbalance andpop ups to attack.
  • Contact Point: Out in front. Push forward through ball.
  • Weight Transfer: Flow into your shot like a speed skater.
  • Body Positioning: Square up to the ball
  • Swing: Smooth, no backswing behind body. Push through all 3 balls.

Drill: Lift/Push Alternator

  • Players stand straight on at NVZ.
  • Player 1 is simply hitting the dink to their partner like a feed - consistent and unattackable.
  • Player 2 is alternating between a lift dink and a push dink.2 min round then switch roles.

Skill: Changing the Direction of the Ball 

  • Defensive:
    • If your toes turn to the outside - reset in front of you.
    • Don’t Change from cross court if you are given a lot of pace and spin.
  • Offensive:
    • Open court down the line - burn them!
    • Attackable ball - hit at opponent straight on from you.
