Notes & Homework
Skill: Punch Volley
- Contact Point: Out in front. Push fwd through ball with guiding motion.
- Weight Transfer: Allow weight to flow into your shot.
- Body Positioning: Good Ready Position
- Hands: Continental grip with medium strength.
- Swing: Follow through pointing your paddle out in front where you placed the ball. Do not over follow through-keep it compact and out in front.
Skill: Blocking
- Contact Point: Don't get too close to the body.
- Weight Transfer: Allow weight to flow into your shot. Don’t lock your weight down like a brick wall.
- Body Positioning: Good Ready Position: elbows out in front of body, Paddle up!
- Hands: Soft hands and wrist to provide shock absorber for ball.
- Swing: Just hold your paddle still and let it do the work. Do not chop at the ball or go out to meet the ball in front like a punch.
Drill: Block Volley Alternator
- Players set up straight on at NVZ.
- 1 player is cooperatively hitting regular volleys.
- Opponent is alternating between block and volley.
- Focus is to feel the difference in each and be able to switch at will.
