Notes & Homework

Skill: Offensive Drop Shot

  • Contact Point: Contact Point out in front. Push forward through the ball.
  • Weight Transfer: Weight transfer focusing on forward and low.
  • Hands: Soft relaxed hand, lay back wrist.
  • Swing: Smooth, slow, even swing tempo. Follow through pointing out in front.
  • Emphasis on forward and low with swing and weight transfer. Place this cross court.

Drill: 2 Drops & Attack - Self Feed

  • Target Rings cross court at NVL and 1 in the middle of the court.
  • Players set up at baseline with 3 balls in hand. Self feed 2 forehand drop shots hit cross court - moving forward through each shot.
  • Self feed swing volley attack to hit up the middle as third shot.
  • Important to feel the fluidity as you complete these shots moving forward.

Drill:  Drop & Roll

  • Place 3 cones in transition zone with balls on top of them.
  • Players stand straight on, 1 at NVZ and 1 at baseline.
  • NVZ player initiates feed to baseline player to hit a drop shot.
  • NVZ player is aiming for target cones while baseline player is staying back and hitting drop shots. Improves ability to keep opponents back with good 4th shot rolls.
  • Improves accuracy and consistency with drop shots and 4th shots.

Skill: Transition Zone Defense

  • Contact Point: Out in front, approx 12-15” in front of toes.
  • Weight Transfer: Allow weight to flow into your shot. Push the ball forward with weight.
  • Body Positioning: Stagger your feet to allow ability to transfer weight.
  • Hands: Soft hands and wrist to provide shock absorber for ball.
  • Swing: Push forward through this ball. Do not swing up at it.
