Notes & Homework

 Skill: Swing Volley

  • Contact Point: Out in front, approx 12-15” in front of toes.
  • Weight Transfer: Load and rotate to allow weight to flow into your shot. Keep your weight low. Do not pick up with the shot.
  • Hands: Eastern grip with laid back wrist.
  • Swing: Swing through the ball like drawing a Nike swoosh to the side of you. Low to high swing plane. No backswing behind the body.

Drill:  Self Feed Swing Volley

  • Set out target rings in back 3rd of court: 1 straight on, one in the middle and one cross court.
  • Player stands at NVZ and self feeds forehand swing volleys.
  • Hitter hits swing volleys at the targets. Perform both odd and even sides.

Drill: Speed Up & Counter Attack

  • Players stand straight on at NVZ.
  • Start cooperative dink rally alternating which player hits the speed up.
  • Opponent is looking to recognize the speed up and counterattack it.
  • Perform this cooperatively by slowing down the pace on your speed ups and slowing down your counter attacks.
  • See how long you can maintain a slow counter battle in order to build good visual and physical muscle memory. Increase intensity as players become more proficient at hand battles.
