Notes & Homework
Skill:Â Cross Court Dink to Speed Up
-
Contact Point & Body Positioning are CRITICAL
-
Square up to the ball cross court to create space in front of you to contact out in front.
-
Dinking intentionally to set up a ball in the middle zone to redirect at opponent in front of you with a speed up.
Drill: Cross Court Dink to Speed Up Drill
Targets: Â Place a ball tube stood up straight across from each player
- Players set up at NVZ cross court from each other
-
Engage in a dink rally looking to build the point to generate a ball in the middle zone high enough to speed up at the tube in front of you.
-
Make this more cooperative if needed or play it competitively to work on creating the higher ball and executing the speed up.
Skill: Cross Court Dink to Pass
-
#1 Select the right ball: must be from the outside quadrant to pass down the line
-
#2 Aim just beyond your opponents feet - not to the back corner
-
Appropriate depth on this shot will take away and attackable ball from your opponent
-
Soften hand and take your time. Rushing this shot will put too much pace on it and lift it up.
Drill: Cross Court Dink to Pass Drill
- Target rings set up down the lines about 3 feet off the NVL
- Set players up cross court from each other.
- 1 Player is tossing a cross court ball into the outside quadrant
- 1 Player is hitting the passing shot aiming at the target ring.
- Rotate so all players hit and toss from both odd and even sides.
Skill:Â Setting Up a Poach
- Set Up
- Hit cross court in front of your partner
- Be aware of going too wide so you dont' set up a down the line passing shot.
- Poach
- Leave as soon as you know you are not taking the 3rd ball
- Look to cut ball off at a diagonal to use weight transfer
- Stay in the fight once you start it
