Notes & Homework
Skill: Offensive Drop Shot
- Contact Point: Contact Point out in front. Push forward through the ball.
- Weight Transfer: Weight transfer focusing on forward and low.
- Hands: Soft relaxed hand, lay back wrist.
- Swing: Smooth, slow, even swing tempo. Follow through pointing out in front.
- Emphasis on forward and low with swing and weight transfer. Place this cross court.
Drill: Drop Shot 10 in a Row
- Player 1 at NVZ, Player 2 at baseline
- Player 1 feeds balls to Player 2- controlled feeds- not aggressive
- Player 2 must hit 10 drop shots in a row into the NVZ
- Count starts over if a ball misses NVZ
- Round #1 Forehands only
- Round #2 Backhands only
Skill: Mid Court Defense
- Contact Point: Out in front, approx 12-15” in front of toes.
- Weight Transfer: Allow weight to flow into your shot. Push the ball forward with weight.
- Body Positioning: Stagger your feet to allow ability to transfer weight.
- Hands: Soft hands and wrist to provide shock absorber for ball.
- Swing: Push forward through this ball. Do not swing up at it.
Drill: Transition Zone Yo Yo
- Mark out transition zone with 2 cones on the sideline (middle of service box about 5 feet wide)
- Part #1- controlled reps
- Player 1 starts at NVZ and Player 2 at the front of transition zone (cone closer to the net)
- Player 1 feeds balls to Player 2 who hits balls back into the NVZ or swings at higher balls
- Player 2 hits a ball and then backs up a step- repeat from front to back of transition zone then hit and move forward a step
- Part #2 - Attack and Win the Point!
- Same as Part #1 but if transitioning player gets and attackable ball they attack and move forward to the NVZ and finish playing out the point
Drill: Skinny Singles
- Mental Focus - staying offensive even if it means a safe shot but its the smart shot
- Footwork - accelerate decelerate to hit every shot in front of you with weight moving through it
