Skill: Counter Attacking the Drive 

• Slow down the last 3 ft of transition like soft close drawer on a cabinet.
• Give yourself space to load forward and swing to counter the drive.
• Use a swinging volley to counter and push ball back at driver's feet.

Drill: Counter Attacking the Drive

• Players stand straight on both at the baseline.
• 1 player serves, receiving player intentionally hits a weak return for server to drive.
• Receiving player begins to move up looking to counter attack the server's drive with a swinging volley.
• Only play out the first 4 shots of the rally.
• Go for timed round and switch jobs or alternate who serves each rally.

Drill: Drop or Drive Recognition

• Players set up as if playing full court doubles.
• This is about recognizing if the 3rd will be a drop or drive.
• Part #1: The returning team will be calling the ball based on what they see from their return: drop or drive?
• Part #2: Same as part #1 but players will call drop or drive and also middle or outside placement.

Drill: Drop Shot Scenarios

• 2 players at the NVZ and 2 at the baseline.
• Feed a drop and play it out drop shot only
• Feed to each baseline player then switch NVZ and baseline jobs.
• Feed to each player and then switch again.
• 5 min just cross court drops and then 5 min just down the line drops
• Players are working on filling their roles as a team depending on drop placement.

Skill: Data Collection

• What is working or what is not working? ADJUST!
• If it works on everyone - it is your strength. Build patterns around it.
• If it works on a few - it is their weakness - Capitalize on it.
• Look to remember the pattern of the last 4 shots of each rally.
• Prevent = take away the opportunity for them to hit their strength.
