Notes & Homework
Skill: Offensive Drop Shot
- Contact Point: Contact Point out in front. Push forward through the ball.
- Weight Transfer: Weight transfer focusing on forward and low.
- Hands: Soft relaxed hand, lay back wrist.
- Swing: Smooth, slow, even swing tempo. Follow through pointing out in front.
- Emphasis on forward and low with swing and weight transfer. Place this cross court.
Drill:Â Drop Shot Collector
- Set up target rings in the outside quadrants of the NVZ.
- 1 player at NVZ and 1 player at baseline.
- NVZ player feeds balls to baseline player and keeps track of how many drops they hit in the NVZ.
- Set timer for 1 min rounds. Count how many drop shots baseline player can land in NVZ or diving just behind the NVL in the 1 min round.
- Repeat and see if you can beat your own time or compete with your drilling partner.
Skill: Transition Zone Defense
- Contact Point: Out in front, approx 12-15” in front of toes.
- Weight Transfer: Allow weight to flow into your shot. Push the ball forward with weight.
- Body Positioning: Stagger your feet to allow ability to transfer weight.
- Hands: Soft hands and wrist to provide shock absorber for ball.
- Swing: Push forward through this ball. Do not swing up at it.
Drill: Â Transition Zone 7-11
- 1 player at NVZ and 1 player mid-court straight on.
- NVZ player feeds ball and point is played out with mid-court player staying in transition zone the entire point.
- Mid-court player may reset or attack from transition in an effort to win the rally.
- Scoring: Rally Scoring - Transition zone player must make it to 7 before NVZ player gets to 11.
